An Appeal from Executive Director Pam Ryan

Over the past 15 months, CASA Children’s Intervention Services has seen a lot of positive change.  We have hired three wonderful Child Advocacy Supervisors and a Program Associate to support their work. We have instituted a rigorous interview process to screen and select quality volunteers, and have recruited, trained and sworn-in three classes of new advocates. We have opened a new office in Fauquier County, and have expanded our services into Warren County.  We have become active participants in important community coalitions, and welcomed six highly respected leaders to our Board of Trustees.  For the first time, we have developed and put into place a comprehensive strategic plan, which establishes our priorities and will govern our work going forward.

Unfortunately, there are far more important things that are not changing:

  • Every year, the number of children involved with the court system due to abuse and neglect continues to grow;
  • Every year, the number of infants born substance-exposed to opioids – and the number of children affected by the addictions of their parents – increases;
  • Every year, the stories of children being physically abused by those closest to them become more frequent and increasingly more horrific; and
  • Every year, we see younger and younger victims of unimaginable sexual assaults, some no more than three months old.

As we enter this season of giving, I know you will have any number of opportunities to support new organizations, as well as those that are near-and-dear to your heart.  We all have organizations whose mission resonates with us and whose work is too important for us not to support.  I ask you to take a moment to reflect on CASA’s work with children in crisis.  With children who may have no idea what it truly means to be loved, protected and cared for.  With children whose bodies bear the marks of their abuse, but who remain hopeful there is a way out and a brighter future ahead.

These are the children to whom CASA CIS is committed.  These are the children to whom our advocates are often the only consistent, caring adult they have ever known.  These are the children who deserve a future filled with hope, security and a loving home of their own.  With your support, we will continue to be the voice in court for children who have been silenced.  And we will continue to do whatever it takes to help a child regain their future. A child here in your own community.

Won’t you please help make that happen by giving what you can?

I wish each and every one of you the Happiest of Holidays. May the next few months find you surrounded by family, friends, and those you love most in the world.

Warmest regards,

Pam Ryan
Executive Director

P.S. Last year, CASA CIS served 347 abused and neglected children. Sadly, we expect that number to continue to grow. Your gift will enable us to provide every child referred to us by local judges, the dedicated advocate they so desperately need and deserve.
