Child Advocacy Supervisor

Supervises: Court Appointed Special Advocates
CASA Children’s Intervention Services (CASA CIS) is looking to fill two full-time supervisor positions. Our program serves Prince William County, including Manassas City and ManassasPark, as well as Fauquier, Rappahannock and Warren Counties. This position requires a thoughtful, flexible and persistent individual who is passionate about changing the lives of abused and neglected children in the civil court system. Our supervisors support our volunteer advocates who work directly with our appointed children, providing guidance and support to our volunteers. The Ideal candidate will understand the importance of family as well as the impact of trauma; be able to clearly and concisely write and edit documents; and manage their time in order to meet multiple obligations under strict deadlines.

Basic Function:
Provides direct supervision to Advocates ensuring that children involved with the CASA program receive sound advocacy and early permanency planning. The Advocacy Supervisor is responsible for assistance in Advocate recruitment, training, supervision, coordination of cases, and maintenance of the case records in the case management database (CASA Manager), and editing reports. The Advocacy Supervisor also provides mentoring to Advocates and PeerMentors.
In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed below, a Child Advocacy Supervisor must be able to work independently and as a team with a wide variety of professionals; must have excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and be detail-oriented. Child Advocacy Supervisors must pass a background check and have reliable transportation.
Duties and Responsibilities: Advocate Management
- Assist in the recruiting, screening, interviewing, and training of new Advocates
- Can communicate with, supervise, and empower Advocates to be effective in their roles
- Mentor and support up to 30 Advocates throughout the course of their cases
- Can work cooperatively with different types of personalities
- Keep the Program Director apprised of status of cases
- Write and administer annual Advocate evaluations
- Assist in Advocate appreciation events and retention measures
- Provide continuing support and monitor status of Advocate activity
- Assist with in-service training

Duties and Responsibilities: Case Management
- Prepare and distribute case assignment documentation
- Review, edit and distribute court reports in a timely manner
- Maintain case files and case database
- Attend court hearings and track outcomes and court dates
- Ensure case files and reports to court are accurate and timely
- Oversee timely handling of necessary paperwork and judicial contacts for CASA appointments and withdrawals
- Ensure adequate case coverage during absence of Advocate or during process of case reassignment
- Ensure confidentiality with respect to court cases and involved parties
- Provide ongoing pertinent updates to the Director
Duties and Responsibilities: Administration
- Maintain and provide data on cases as required in CASA Manager the case management database system
- Promote awareness of CASA program in the community
- Assist with fundraising activities as needed
- Participate in public relations/community education efforts of program as assigned by the Program Director
- Represent CASA CIS in multi-agency organizations efforts
- Commitment to engage in on-going education to remain current on all matters related to Child Welfare, Advocacy, Legislation Knowledge and issues affecting families
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes:
- College degree required, 4 years relevant experience considered
- Computer proficiency
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills (oral and written); bi-lingual in Spanish a plus
- Supervisory experience, volunteer supervisory experience preferred
- Knowledge of the CASA program, child advocacy, abuse, and court and social services systems strongly preferred
- Available to work flexible evening and weekend hours when needed (occasional)
